A sweet story May 10, 2010
In Summer 2008, there was a happy family reunion. Jessica (11) and Natalie (9) were happily playing in the beach building beautiful castles and trying to make their ends meet. Jessica and Natalie’s parents were watching them have fun in the reunion. Jessica had a nature’s emergency call. When her mom accompanied her, this is what happened, she went to the restroom to finish up with the nature’s call.
Within the next 15 minutes Jessica had to go to the ladies room once again. After this, Jessica thought she had loaded herself with enough water and stopped drinking water. This kept happening evening after the cessation of water intake. Now the kid is really worried and her parents too. She was rushed to the hospital to understand this issue. Physicians initially thought it was a urinary infection. But after a blood sugar test and urine test, Jessica was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes. You are shocked? So Am I…
Now you are eager to know more, because it happened to Jessica…
What is Diabetes? Diabetes happens because of high levels of sugar in blood. Doesn’t mean you get Diabetes if you are a sweet person. When our pancreas doesn’t create enough insulin (regulates sugar in bloodstream, allows glucose to enter into tissues) the glucose broken down from the food we intake is not transmitted through blood to tissues and various parts of the body.
Type of Diabetes:
Type 1 Diabetes or Juvenile Diabetes – Pancreas produces little or no insulin
Type 2 Diabetes – Usually through Family genes – Insulin resistance
Gestational diabetes – Only during pregnancy and disappears after delivery, but may develop Type 2 Diabetes later
How can I avoid Diabetes?
Prevention is better than cure. If Diabetes runs in your family it is better to take necessary precautions by learning about it and take Chromium rich food (aids in carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism), regulate the glucose level in body by proper exercise… much more options will be discussed in future articles. This article you will learn about Diabetes.
Diabetes statistics:
India is the Diabetic Capital of the World
The International Diabetes Federation recently published findings revealing that in 2007, the country with the largest numbers of people with diabetes is India (40.9 million), followed by China (39.8 million), the United States (19.2 million), Russia (9.6 million) and Germany (7.4 million).
Daily skin care regimen April 28, 2010
As a certified skin care consultant I have heard so many concerns about taking care of skin, especially facial skin.
Face is the index of mind, so it is definitely worth your time to spend 3 mins to take care of your skin which is going to be with you life long.
3-3-3 Rule:
What is this rule and how is it connected to our skin.
Everyday spend 3 minutes with 3 simple steps and reduce your skin age by 3 years and more too if you are disciplined in what you are doing.
1st Minute : Step 1: Cleanse your face with a good cleansing foam or wash which will deep clean the pores on your face. You can apply it to your neck too because next to your face much exposed part is your neck.
2nd minute: Step 2: Tone your skin. That removes excess dirt on your skin and it is more like giving a smooth finish
3rd minute: Step 3: Repair your skin for any skin care concern like acne, dark spots, sun burn, pigmentation and apply moisturizer.
Tadaaa…. Your skin will thank you million times for doing this everyday diligently. If you are really particular about your skin and prevent it from aging you could do twice. Morning and night.. Morning cleansing protects you from damage and night cleansing repairs from any damage happened during the day.
Guys, this is not just for ladies, you don’t want to look older than your spouse or sister right… You can do this too…
Help me with the Hair fall syndrome April 28, 2010
Fact for the day: Hair is the second fastest growing tissue in our body. Who is the first? Bone marrow is No.1.
Men or women doesnt matter, hair fall is not biased. On an average everyone losses 100 hairs everyday thoughout their life. Each of us have 100,000 hairs in our scalp and good news is it keeps growing. While we are not here to talk about hair growth or fall statistics, let me give you the “Why” and the “How”.
“Why hair loss”?
We lose hair for many reasons. Few can be listed here like the medicine you are intaking, thyroid, birth contol pills, harmonal change, post pregnancy, after delivering baby, hereditary, Zinc deficiency, Iron deficiency, Tight braids, bleaching, dyes, medications, stress, dandruff.. The list can be frustrating..
Enough of the problem causers, I know everyone of us have handled atleast one of these and that might be the reason for the hair fall.
“How do I prevent future hair loss”?
If you are a guy and already seeing your dad getting bald that is number one sign for you to stay alert “You are not alone”. But definitely since you know already it is worth making the plans ahead.
- Just like maintaining your facial skin, it is important to have clean scalp. Cleanse/shampoo your hair with shampoo that has less chemical which is not so harsh.
- Definitely moisturize your scalp. Your scalp needs moisturize. Your body contains 80% water.. Cummon dont leave the scalp alone…
- Intake iron rich food. Food rich in Zinc (Cauliflower, Banana, Eggs, Fish, Walnuts, Tomatoes, Spinach and more). Little quantity of Zinc would do lot of good to your body.
- Biotin, a B vitamin which research suggests may help alleviate nail brittleness, promote healthy hair, and improve skin condition.
Key is to have a proper diet which helps with your overall body performance and based out of this article our focus is for hair care. Key is good shampoo and Zinc rich diet. See you soon with the next set that talks about our concern and effective solution
Do you know your skin type? April 27, 2010
Do you agree the fact, that men or women all of us have skin?
Do you agree that all our skin age?
Interestingly the answer for both the questions would be a big “YES”. While most of us know that we have skin, we don’t believe that our skin ages as we celebrate our birthday every year, as a matter of fact with the rising pollution and lack of awareness of skin care, some people’s skin age even faster.
Let us learn some skin care basics. Our skin has many layers. But 3 main layers we take into consideration are:
- Epidermis : Outer Skin or the skin which we can see with our naked eye. It has hair follicles, sweat and oil glands
- Dermis: Middle layer of skin which gives the elasticity to the skin.
- Hypodermis: Deepest layer of the skin which forms a cushion for the above mentioned two layers. It has fatty acids.
While we now have an idea what is our skin structure. Now let us talk about “Tell about my skin” story. Before that, I have two quick questions for you or rather I would say fact. Basically, there are three skin type:
Normal Skin – Balanced skin, which is ideally not possible in these days.
Dry Skin – Where the skin keeps shedding out quite often and you cant stay without a good moisturizer
Oily Skin – Touch your nose in the mid of the day and if you feel oily, then your skin is oily skin. No magic there.
Now let us determine your skin type just with few questions:
- I tend to have an oily sheen throughout the day – Oily Skin
- I have no significant dryness or oiliness – Normal Skin
- My skin sheds out easily – Dry Skin
- I often have a shiny T-zone (forehead, nose, & chin) and my cheeks feel dry – Combination Skin (Oily and Dry at some places, this is possible)
I’m sure you had fun learning and identifying your skin type. I enjoyed sharing the info with you. In the next few articles we can see how you can take care of your skin from the scratch. It is never too late.
Why I don’t have enough energy? April 26, 2010
We all are surviving in this world through some form of energy. It may be Light energy, Heat energy, Chemical energy, Electrical energy, Mechanical energy and the list goes on. Why should our body be left alone. We need energy as well.
In order to build new molecules in our body we need energy. That is Science 101 right there. I hear what you are saying. Now tell me how do I get the energy in my body? Our body gets the energy by breaking down nutrients like glucose, amino acids and fatty acids that we get from our food. This is nothing but the biochemical reaction that provides us the energy.
But remember, only based on what we input we get the output. You feed healthy nutritious food, you get the same as the output and your energy level is high. Whereas we intake thinking something might give us good energy, we dont get the desired output because the item we intake is not healthy.
Did You Know?
Lack of Energy can lead to:
- Fatigue
- Muscle pain
- Multi-joint pain
- Headaches
- Interrupted sleep
- Less memory
- Premature hair grey
Though the intensity may vary at different levels, it is always good to have a balanced NUTRITION rich diet to prevent having these problems. Prevention is better than cure.. I hope you agree and enjoyed the information. In the upcoming article we will cover “How to get the good source of energy.”
